Twitter is going to reach a significant milestone tomorrow—it will have signed up the 500 millionth registered user at approximately 3:45 PM ET, according to Twopcharts‘ best estimate.
If Twitter keeps growing at this rate, Mediabistro concludes, it will reach 1 billion users in about a year and a half–and possibly even sooner if its growth continues to accelerate.
One billion of anything sounds like a lot, but numbers are becoming increasingly fungible in social media land. True, the space is not even close to settling down into something resembling a stable environment. Even so, it is becoming increasingly difficult to make value judgments about the players from week to week.
